Pine Cay – a world of activities awaits you : Snorkeling and Scuba diving Turks and Caicos coral reefs, or Beach Combing the remote beaches of the country's islands and unpopulated cays will fill your days in the sun.
The pristine coral reefs of Turks & Caicos offer a breathtaking experience with small darts of colour as the fish wiggle gracefully in and out of weaving lacy fans and tubes of sponge. Snorkeling along an underwater trail, with signs and explanations, educates you about the coral types. The coral reefs of Turks & Caicos Islands are noteworthy for their health and growth, with coral heads near shore for your exploration, as well as snorkeling trips to the edge of the coral reefs that surround the Turks and Caicos Islands archipelago.
Turks & Caicos is rated among the ten best Scuba Diving destinations worldwide. The walls of coral that drop deep into the ocean at the edge of the reefs surrounding the islands are amazing. You can safely and slowly drop deeper into the sea, while the coral formations grow in size, as do the fish , until you are a small quiet observer in their world. Turks & Caicos scuba diving excursions are available on Pine Cay, Providenciales, Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South Caicos, with qualified divemasters, safe equipment and sturdy boats. The local government has ensured that moorings are utilized to protect the reef so your Turks & Caicos diving pleasure can continue…..
"The north coast of Pine Cay has several excellent dive sites. The reef here starts at about 45-50 feet and gentley slopes down to a plateau at about 120 feet. This site generally has lots of reef fishes, but despite it's name, rarely eagle rays! Here we usually see lots of creole wrasses, chromis and various other smaller reef fish. On this day, we found several members of the boxfish family." Don Stark
"Angelfish Reef is a nice sloping reef leading down to the drop-off. Normally this is a very colorful and lovely site, but when we dove it in the late summer, a lot of coral bleaching had occurred. So in this episode, we see the reef and talk about the causes and concerns that coral bleaching bring to all who care about coral reefs. The good news is that this site has recovered and is again a healthy and vibrant reef - at least for now." Don Stark
"Pine Cay is a small island just east of Providenciales. This site is one of the few moored sites off Pine Cay and the most unique. The coral forms three high sloping walls around a large flat patch of sand at 80 feet which gives the site the appearance of a large football stadium. Narrow grooves in the coral wall form the walkways (or, in this case, swimways) into the stadium. This is one of the best sites for hard corals, lots of fish and large schools of fish. Spadefish, young baracuda, jacks and Bermuda chub are almost always here in large numbers. " Don Stark
Beach combing is an active pursuit in the Turks & Caicos Islands. The white sand shores of the country face all directions, making TCI a Beach Combing haven for every taste. Should you be looking for delicate shells, stick to the beaches of Dellis Cay and Bambarra Bay on Middle Caicos, while for flotsam, the prevailing wind shore of Conch Bar on Middle Caicos is packed with treasure from the ships on the ocean as tides and storms carry it to shore. The inner bank beaches at Long Bay on Providenciales offer yet more Turks and Caicos beach combing, of a different order, for within the archipelago the seaweed ties up the oceans treasures…….enjoy a lazy day wandering the beautiful beaches of Turks and Caicos Islands.
